It is important for Bangladesh to develop vocational education. Bangladesh’s workforce is facing with two problems, low quality and a lack of skilled technicians, who only account for one third of the total. These problems have greatly affected Bangladesh’s innovation, resulting in low-end products, and low remittances of these workers employed abroad.
Cdre M Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan,ndc,psc Commodore Superintendent Dockyard took up the challenge of Card. Supported by Welfare Directorate, NHQ under the guidance of CNS R Adm Z U Ahmed, ndc, psc started the project with some officers of Bangladesh Navy Dockyard. The Institute is located beside BN Dockyard New Mooring, Chittagong. The institute comprises of workshops, classrooms, and offices, covering a built area of about 2,000 sq. meters.
In July 30, 2009 the Institute was opened, enrolling 53 boys and offering Welding, Electrical & House wiring, AC & Refrigeration and Machinist courses. At the end of the year the students will be examined by Bangladesh Technical Education Board to obtain the “Vocational Certificate” as provided by the Bangladesh Government.
